Houndslake Country Club is absolutely beautiful. It has stunning views of lakes and mature trees, as well as incredibly manicured lawns. The golf course was challenging, but also appropriate for those who may be new to the game. The hills create a feeling of seclusion, but the location couldn't be more convenient. The golf carts are newer and very well maintained, and the price to play honestly feels like a steal. The water coolers at the tees were very clean, and the water was fresh and cold. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. My husband and I are planning our next visit already!

The course layout is pretty nice, with many challenging holes. Unfortunately the conditions leave a lot to be desired. And the cart paths are terrible. They do have a nice clubhouse with many room options for large or small groups and parties.

I go here more than I do than other golf courses here in Aiken now that I'm no longer a Woodside member and this place always has its fair share of pros and cons. The good thing is that its a good place with good people that I can feel comfortable dropping my kid off when he wants to go golf with his friends and the workers aren't so strict like other golf courses I've been to. The bad thing is that some of the tee boxes are hard as a rock and impossible to get your tee in and some people chunk the grass and don't fill it in which make some holes just look ugly.

As a former member, I am severely disappointed with the current state of this course. I have played here many times over the last five years, and each year it gets progressively worse. As it is now, I wouldn’t pay to play on this course even if it was half price. Every single green is covered in weeds, and they are cut longer than some other courses cut their fairways. The fairways are under-watered, often with the only green parts being the weeds. The tee boxes look like the rough, full of weeds and mostly dirt. Even the sand traps are filled with weeds and grass clippings. Not that it matters, because the sand is as hard as pavement. Speaking of pavement, the cart paths are only about 40% paved. It seems they started to pave them a few years ago but never finished, leaving us to drive on the rough if we don’t want to risk injury. This might even be an insurance liability for the course now. Their third 9 hole course (Laurel) is in complete ruins. I don't even think they will let you play on it anymore. The final straw for me was the unprofessional behavior of the golf pro. He spent the better part of 45 minutes slowly driving his cart, stopping and walking around, and otherwise being in the way. He definitely saw us behind him and heard us hit immediately after he moved each time, but apparently he couldn't pause his work for five minutes to let us play through. Even with the long delay, there was no one behind us. I can’t figure out what he was thinking! It’s sad to see the course decline so much. The design is amazing, it’s quiet and scenic. The course was fantastic when I first saw it in 2019, and we became members immediately. We dropped our membership during the pandemic, and now that we are back to playing regularly I think we will be becoming members somewhere else. Go play any other golf course. Houndslake currently is a retirement home with a golf-course-shaped park.

This course has a nice design with varied terrain giving many uphill or downhill lies. The hole in the picture is a big downhill from the tee box with the fairway funneling around the lake at the bottom. The head pro and staff are always friendly.
